Dreux Sawyer has become a master of his craft. He is also one of my former Montclair College students. We caught up on our lives during a tasty dim sum brunch at The China Gourmet in West Orange, NJ.
One of the dishes served this day were these crispy taro dumplings with a tasty sauce inside. Sorry, I gobbled them down before I asked what was in them.
My favorites are the Mexican Buns. I still have no idea why they are called that yet served in a Chinese dim sum array, but they are delicious. A buttery flaky crust ensconses a creamy sweet egg custard. If you find a place that makes these, order 6 and quietly eat them all by yourself in some darkened alley or under a bridge so nobody will bother you on your way to nirvana. Then don’t peer into any mirrors so won’t experience the visual look of shame for about a day or two.
